Please (beggin) send some prayers to my friend Dot I work with- an exceptional woman approximately early 40's with three sons ranging from 11 or 12 to 18. 2 months ago she was diagnosed with 3rd stage (if I said that right) breast cancer and is in her third week of a total of 26 weeks of chemo-therapy. *shudders* Someone from work sent an email to check on her this week and her response was this:
"Ugh, It's so bad. I've been back and forth to the hospital 3 times since last Thursday for meds and fluids. Just tell everyone to pray for me to feel better."
I can't say enough about the kind, giving spirit of this woman. I can't say enough about how unselfish she is and what a great mother she is to her boys. She is more worried (as a mom would be) about her boys and how they're coping than she is with her own self and how she's feeling. Our office has raised enough money to send her meals each week to take care of her family because she cannot cook in her condition, several people have cooked meals, and we sent her a basket with a pretty hat in it (she may like it when she loses her hair), some food, gift cards to Target and Shaws and several other items. We continue to bring her whatever we can and are also raising money to help out with other expenses for her family.
Someone at work read about "Mel's Story" online and the story of the bracelet decided to buy in bulk 100 bracelets- you can see how pretty they are here. Within a week they all were gone. $15.00 of the proceeds are going toward the breast cancer foundation- assisting with research, education, awareness, prevention and patient support, as you can read about on her website.
The remaining $5.00 is going to be donated to our dear friend Dot and her family in their struggle to fight and overcome such a horrible disease. We are hoping we can continue to assist her along the way during her battle. Unfortunately we cannot take the pain away, but we can at least soften the financial burden a bit. It's nice to know that despite our personal opinions of eachother in the workplace we can all come together and help out someone in need.
I'm posting this for several reasons. This happened almost overnight, after her normal yearly mammograms Dot found a lump on her own and questioned it with her doctor. It was cancer, and it was already consuming her. Please get your yearly mammograms and do self-checks monthly. If you have any suspicions or gut feelings, take it seriously. Don't second guess yourself. Early detection is key.
Tonight is the wake of the sister of another collegue of mine, Joanne. She lost her battle with breast cancer after more than 2 years when it spread to her brain. She died friday. She leaves behind two young children. At work I started up a collection and have so far raised over $200.00 in two days at work for the Cody and Megan Education fund thru the Bank of America for her children. I am actually getting some kind of internal reward for this, I feel good. Do you know that feeling?
Please read Mel's story and the story of the bracelets. If anyone is interested in a bracelet we have ordered so far 6 shipments at work and they are being sold left and right amongst coworkers. We are up in the hundreds and counting, more will be ordered. I have bought one for a birthday gift, and plan to buy one for myself and 2 other gifts. I think the meaning behind the bracelet is important and it makes a wonderful gift, in addition it goes to a great cause. If interested please email me and I will have one shipped to you within a week. The total is $20.00 and $1.00 to ship. I will even put a little paypal link on my webpage if someone shows me how to do it. :) Mother's Day is right around the corner!
Even if you are not intersted in a bracelet, send the work around, leave a link to my site on your own page or a comment on someone's sight and send them over here. Maybe you have your own story to share.
And most important of all, please pray. I know you guys are always making miracles happen in blogland.
*kisses*

WOW.
I am so afraid of leaving my children. My heart goes out to all and tonight a special prayer will be said.
I came back to give you a hug.
Stay positive. What you're doing is a good thing. I bookmarked the bracelets...I just need to pass the info. around at work then I'll be ordering. You can believe that!
Alright, I have 2 bracelets to buy now when I get paid...remind me next week!!
I can't go read her story right now though...can't do anymore sad right now.
I read... so sad. I know that they say that everything happens for a reason, but sometimes it is so hard to find the reason.
I went to the website and noticed that there are different donation levels for the bracelets. If you choose the $25.00 level, does the additional money go to Dot, or to Breast Cancer Research?
